They are very well protected. With the progress of society and technology, uncounted historical sites were destroyed and few left. The tower we see in the artwork is based on the Xizhimen Gate. The city gate was demolished in 1969 and replaced by a viaduct. In fact, there were many many different types of old gates around Old Beijing, but 99% has vanished. They need special protection as we protect pandas. The tower use knife carving on oil material.
