Max Cowper  (1869-1911) was a Scottish artist who specialised in works of general subject matter and time, Edwardian and Victorian scenes with numerous persons in activity, dancing, shopping and entertaining.  His works have been transferred to print and are in demand for their period subject and dress.  This picture is typical of the Edwardian period, a gentleman dressed in a top hat with his lady, and with children looking on, they are shopping for Christmas presents.
