Dr. Mary Nicol Neill Armour (1902-2000) studied at the Glasgow School of Art, where she later became an influential art teacher. Armour’s art was influenced by contemporaries such as Anne Redpath and David Donaldson, and she exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy in London and the Royal Scottish Academy. In 1972, she was awarded the Cargill Prize from the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; ten years later, she received an honorary LLD from the University of Glasgow and was elected Honorary President of the Glasgow School of Art.
