Since 1120 Salzburg is the Residence of the Archbishops of Salzburg. In the years 1600 to 1619 the new building had been errected under Archbishop Wolfdietrich von Raitenau. From 1709 to 1727 the magnificant state rooms had been furnished by Lukas Hildebrandt. Johann Michael Rottmayr and Martin Altomonte made the wonderful frescoes. In the state rooms Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart gave concerts for the Archbishop. Since 1976 the fair for Arts and Antiquites has been taking place in the 15 state apartments of the bel etage. It is taking place every year from Palm Saturday to Easter Monday, simultaneous with the Easter Festival.

This year 40 international dealers present objects of art from all periods. The range comprisis exquisite furniture from the Gothic to Jugendstil, paintings from old masters to contemporary, sculptures from the 15th to the 20th century,glass from five centuries silver, jewelry, rare clocks, icons, ceramics and fayences, traditional objects of art, carpets and scientific instruments and for the first time photo art.
