The Turner Prize

[08/12/2004]

Jeremy Deller (38) has been awarded the Turner Prize 2004. The British artist created a sensation with his video entitled “Memory Bucket: A Film About Texas”.

So far, the young artist’s works have yet to appear at auction but it is just a matter of time before they do. Winners of the Turner Prize always see their prices rise very rapidly. For example, Damien Hirst, winner of the Turner Prize in 1995, broke his top price record in October this year at Sotheby’s high-profile auction of the contents of the “Pharmacy” restaurant in London: GBP 1.1 million. Prior to obtaining the Turner Prize in 1995, only two of the artist’s works had been put up for auction. The result: one was bought in and the other went for GBP 1,800.
