1958 – 1963:Paints regular all-over webs of colour lines and then bolder, wider colour structures.
1954:Begins to paint with splodges and bands of intense colour.
1953 – 1954:Lives in New York and meets the Abstract Expressionists.
1952:Promotes with Burri, Colla and others the foundation Origine and edites the magazine Arti Visive.
1951 – 1954:Made white paintings with points and lines in relief.
1950 – 1951:Back in Rome, organises a co-operative gallery Age d’Or for avant-garde exhibitions, edites Forma 2 and organises the second national exhibition of abstract art.
1947 – 1948:Takes part in the drafting of the manifesto Forma 1 and lives in Paris 1947-8 on a French government scholarship, meeting Magnelli, Vantongerloo and other abstract artists.
1946:Meets Turcato, Corpora, Guttuso, Severini and Prampolini; paints his first abstract pictures.
