Comments: Wheeler was born into a Connecticut family and began painting professionally at the age of fifteen (1847). He specialized in elaborate children's portraits, although he also painted portraits of civic leaders and liked to do landscapes. He died between 1893-96, when his widow was listed in the Hartford directory.
