Comments: He is considered one of the foremost landscape painters of Southern Calif., whose work was well received by his contemporaries. In 1888 he was first violin for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, sketching in his spare time, until he had enough money to go to NYC and study art. Married Marion K. Wachtel (see entry) in 1904, and moved to a studio on Mt. Washington; then again near the Sierra Madre. Together they took many painting excursions in a specially outfitted car.
