biografia di Sally MICHEL (1902-2003)

Profession: Painter

Studied: ASL.

Exhibited: Childs Gal., Boston, 1980s-90s.

Work: MMA; Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford; Corcoran Gal.

Comments: She married artist Milton Avery in 1926, and for the next four decades they became each other"s model, critic, and collaborator. In deference to managing his career and their family, she made no effort to exhibit or sell her own work; however, she did sell her illustrations to the New York Times. By the 1950s, when Milton"s works began to find a following, she began to exhibit her own. Increased recognition followed in the years after Milton"s death.
