Comments: Born Von Glehn, he became known as De Glehn. A British Impressionist, he was a close friend of John Singer Sargent who he met in 1891 at the studio of another expatriate, E.A. Abbey. DeGlehn's ties to the U.S. were further strengthened in 1904 when he married the American painter, Jane Erin Emmet, of the family of Emmet women painters. The DeGlehns traveled and painted with Sargent, most notably in Italy and Greece. Bewteeen WWI and WWII, the DeGlehns made many extended trips to the US, painting in New England.
